ChatGPT vs Claude vs Gemini: Which AI Is Best for Your Business?

What each one is actually good at, what they cost and which one we use every day

Three polaroids pinned to a desk labelled ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini, with Claude stamped as our pick

I've been using AI since ChatGPT first came out, within a couple of days of launch. Since then I've tried pretty much every platform going. So when someone asks which one they should use for their business, I've got a fairly strong opinion.

Quick disclaimer: none of these are sponsoring me. And as with everything in AI, this changes fast. This is where things stand in October 2026.

The quick version

  • Claude for writing, anything going to customers, automations and serious business work. It's my daily driver.
  • ChatGPT if you're brand new to AI and want to try before you buy. It does a bit of everything.
  • Gemini for images, video and anything with a huge document, plus it's handy if you live in Google Workspace.

Now the longer version.

Claude: the one I use every day

Claude is my number one for business. Three reasons.

It sounds like a person. Of the three, Claude does the best job of writing like a human. Emails, proposals, blog posts, social posts. Less editing, fewer of those AI giveaways people spot a mile off.

It follows instructions. Tell it how you want something done and it does it, every time. That matters a lot when you're using AI inside automations, where you can't sit there correcting it. I use Claude in my automations even when there are cheaper models out there, because it gets it right.

It's less of a yes man. This is the one people notice when they switch. Ask Claude about a business idea and it'll tell you where the holes are. An AI that tells you every idea is amazing is dangerous. You spend months building something nobody buys.

The honest caveat: Claude doesn't make images or video. That's fine, because that's what Gemini is for (more on that below). And its free plan is quite restrictive, so you don't get to try the best bits before you pay.

ChatGPT: the easy all-rounder

ChatGPT is where most people start, and for good reason. It's easy to use, it does a bit of everything and its free plan gives you a lot to play with before you spend anything.

If you've never used AI before, it's a perfectly good first step.

The downside, for me, is that it tries to do too much. It writes, codes, makes images, browses, runs agents. Jack of all trades. In my experience its writing has gone backwards as OpenAI has focused more on coding, and it's more inclined to tell you what you want to hear.

A quick example. I saw a post online and thought, no, that can't be true. So I tested it myself. I asked: "I need to wash my car. The car wash is 100 metres away. Should I walk or drive?"

ChatGPT told me to walk, with six points about engine wear and getting some exercise. I sent the same question to Claude. One sentence back: you'll need to drive, because you have to take the car to the car wash. Thank you. Someone understands.

I kept going with ChatGPT to see how long it would take. It took six messages before it twigged that the car needed to be there.

Gemini: the creative one

Gemini is Google's AI, and it has two big strengths.

Images and video. Google's image tools are brilliant for product shots and editing photos, and its video tools are among the best around. Claude doesn't do either, so I use a free Gemini account alongside Claude for anything visual.

Massive documents. Gemini can take in a huge amount of information in one go. I've used it to transcribe whole podcast episodes where other models would run out of room.

It's also a natural fit if your business already runs on Gmail, Google Docs and Google Drive.

For writing and following detailed instructions, I still find Claude better.

Which one for which job?

  • Writing emails, proposals and content: Claude
  • Customer-facing replies in an automation: Claude
  • AI agents: Claude. In my testing it uses the tools you give it far more reliably.
  • Research: any of them work, all three can search the web now
  • Product photos and image editing: Gemini
  • Video: Gemini
  • Transcribing or summarising very long documents: Gemini

Pick one and learn it properly

Here's the bit most people get wrong. I used to flit between Claude and ChatGPT, using one for this and the other for that, and I was wasting time. Every platform has its own way of doing things: projects, memory, custom instructions, skills.

Pick one for your main work and go deep on it for six months. Set it up properly with your business information, your tone of voice and your processes, so it actually knows your business. You'll get far more out of one tool you know well than three you only half know.

The exception is images and video. Keep a free Gemini account for those.

Can you switch from ChatGPT to Claude?

Yes, and it's easier than people think. You can export your data from ChatGPT's settings and import it into Claude. Your custom GPT instructions can become Claude skills, and projects work in a similar way in both.

The biggest shock isn't the setup. It's the answers. You'll notice straight away that it's less eager to please.

Keep your business data safe

Whichever you pick, a few rules:

  • Check the data settings. On consumer plans your chats may be used to train the model unless you switch it off. Find the setting and turn it off.
  • Don't paste in client data you wouldn't want shared. Names, contact details, anything confidential.
  • Business and team plans usually come with stronger data protections, so they're worth it once more than one person is using AI.
  • Automations are different. They connect through the API, which isn't used for training, so the data in your automations is handled differently from your chats.

My advice

If you're just starting out, try ChatGPT's free plan to see what AI can do. Once you're using it for real business work, move to Claude and set it up properly. Keep a free Gemini account for images and video.

Then stop switching. Pick your main one and learn it inside out.

Questions people also ask

Is Claude better than ChatGPT for business?

For most business work, yes. Claude writes more naturally, follows instructions more reliably and gives more honest feedback. ChatGPT is easier for complete beginners and has a more generous free plan for trying things out.

Is Claude cheaper than ChatGPT?

They're roughly the same. The main paid plan for each is around $20 a month, and both have more expensive plans for heavy users. Gemini's main paid plan is a similar price.

Is Gemini good for business?

Yes, especially for images, video and working with very long documents. It also fits well if your business runs on Google Workspace. For writing and detailed instructions, Claude is stronger.

Which AI is best for writing?

Claude. Of the three, it does the best job of sounding like a real person, which means less editing and fewer obvious AI giveaways.

Which AI is best for coding?

Claude and ChatGPT are both strong for coding. Claude is my pick for building apps and anything where it needs to follow detailed instructions.

Should I use more than one AI?

Pick one for your main work and learn it properly. Keeping a second free account for something your main one can't do, like Gemini for images, makes sense. Switching between several for everyday work wastes time.

Is it safe to put business information into ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini?

Turn off the setting that lets your chats train the model, and don't paste in confidential client data on a personal plan. Business plans come with stronger protections. Automations that use the API aren't used for training.
